T-4 days, and a big ball of emotions.
Hello, now a more serious blog.
I received my contract, with the contacts names and even the name of the city where I will be living this summer. My flight information made it seem all the more real.
I will be leaving St.John's on Wednesday morning, 7:30 am, going to Toronto for a week, then leaving Toronto on May 13th, around 4 pm to reach Paris and then finally Ouagadougou, the capital of Burkina Faso. From there I will travel approximately 100 miles north west down to Koudougou, the city where I will live this summer. Just typing that was nerve wracking. I'm excited and nervous all at once. Thankful for this life changing opportunity and setting out to make the best work I can. Speaking to my coach in Ouaga was definitely a huge relief. I'm getting really excited to be there and to meet them all.
I have been reading up on my placement, and this is what I have been able to extract out of all the documents and my chat with my coach. I will be working in Koudougou. Water and sanitation work, so I'll be working with latrine projects and worshops on sanitation. From what I can understand, I'll be helping with leadership, communication and as always, evaluations.
T-0!!! In Toronto! Predeparture training is started.
I am working off of the MUN EWB chapter's new netbook. A special thank you to:
Anne, Annette, Ayla, Dash, Dave, Donald, Ed, Elizabeth, Gerry, Isobel, Jennifer, Joy, Kim W, Lori, Malin, Monique, Morgan, Pablo. Sharon, Sylvia, Tara, Theresa and Zoe.
Thank you Ryan and Jeremy for getting the netbook ready!
The fundraiser was a huge success and the chapter is now a proud owner of an Acer Aspire one in brown (because pink may not have been practical...)
Also a special note to someone who drove me to the airport and delt with the family crying session. Thank you for the sudoku and plane letter, I can't wait to get the next two letters, they will surely bring me joy and a piece of home when I settle in Koudougou.
L'arrive a Toronto fut fabuleuse.
Des attitudes et actions que nous avons mentione aujourd'hui;
